Trip Date: 21st March to 30th March 2010
This is a 10days trip with my family, dad had always like japan (he like watching japan hour) but we didnt went there because he felt that its very expensive... so this time... we decided to explore japan.... before they get older and have difficulties walking long distance...
our rough expenditure for this trip is around 3K/pax for 10days which is slightly cheaper than what tour agent offered.
when planning for family trip with elderly (my mum n dad is in early 60s), plan for things that they love to see.. for my parents that would be flowers... not so expensive shopping... and maybe market...
during my trip to Korea years back, i visited nami island... we are suppose to see the autumn fallen leaves.. but we are there one week earlier... (see tts the bad point of going in tour group...)
so if we go in spring and we did not see sakura... that will be super saddening.. therefore i left one day free so i can do some adjustment when nearer to our travel dates when the sakura forecast is release. Sakuras only bloom for on week and the prettiest will be on full bloom day and some said the last few days as you can see sakura rain (fallen sakura).
Okay, let me shut my mouth and let our journey begins.
Day 1 : Took Delta Airline flight from SG to NRT

delta offered the cheapest direct flight from SG to TYO

1st thing we need to do, go to the JR cum tourist information to activate our JR pass and reserved our seats on shinkansen as we will be heading Kyoto first for this trip (coz i love kyoto so much that I felt my parents will love it too!!!)
taking narita express to shinagawa

first tix is 14:45 narita airport to 15:52 shinagawa
second tix: 16:10 shinagawa to 18:48 Kyoto (almst 3hours)
shinagawa to kyoto in hikari (nozomi train is the fastest, JR pass owner can only take the 2nd fastest which is Hikari). the arrival and departure time is also printed on the tic, FYI japan trains are super on the dot... so dont be late!

so we bought ekiben aka train bento
bento that are sold in the station, usually they are made using the specialty of that prefecture. they are also cheaper than the onboard bentos. fyi, they are not chilled like our 7-11 bento...

but after 1hr+, I saw mt. Fuji by the window!!!!

reached kyoto almost around 7pm~
went to our hotel Kyoto Dai-ni tower hotel that is 5mins walk from the station..
japan hotel are ex. esp. those that are near major JR station...
yea.... ard SGD300/night for a normal looking room or should I say spacious room as cheap japan rooms are usually tiny.... yes TINY is the word...
and their tiny bathroom with a tiny bathtub!
had dinner at the station and bought onigiri on our way back...
love japan coz they have UME (sour plum) flavour stuff!
